Incorporated (current research engineer)

BSc (Hons) Lancaster University 2009; MSc (Dist) Newcastle University (2011); AIEMA.

James joined CICE in October 2011 and the focus of his EngD is sustainability within the construction industry, particularly focusing upon the present and future challenges for SMEs to gain certification to industry standards.  A key theme in his research is the concept of Responsible Sourcing (RS), and how this fits into the wider CSR agenda.  James is based at Responsible Solutions in Loughborough.

Prior to joining CICE, James completed his MSc in Clean Technology at Newcastle University.  As part of this, he completed a three month work placement in the University Estates Office working on implementing the higher education sector Environmental Management System (EMS) scheme, 'EcoCampus'.  Completion of his MSc rendered James eligible for Associate level membership with the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).  James was offered a further extention to his contract upon completion of his placement in August 2011 upon assisting the University in passing its 'Gold' audit.  He continued to work for Newcastle University until his appointment at Responsible Solutions in October 2011.

Coming from an environmental background with a BSc in Environmental Science from Lancaster University, James is enjoying the challenge of applying this base knowledge to the wider context of sustainability within construction.
