The fundamentals of leak detection is a collaboration between Northumbrian Water and Sheffield University’s Pennine Water Group.

It is known that a leak in a pipe can produce many effects, either on the environment, some properties of the pipe or the fluid flows and pressures within it and the network around it. This project will examine what effects a leak in a pipe produces internally, externally and operationally. It will then ascertain how well current techniques work and examine whether there are other methods to find leaks. There will also be experiments in the lab and in the field.
