We are setting out to develop the next generation of Thought Leaders within the highly topical area of Resource Efficiency of Building Services. The significant impact on resource depletion in terms of the use of materials, recycled content, embodied carbon, water use, resource scarcity and security, life span and end of life potential (e.g. re-use, recyclability) could be the next ‘big win’ for the Green Agenda. This innovative research collaboration between the University of Reading and the progressive global consultancy, AECOM, will broaden knowledge of the wider implications of the systems that building services engineers specify and the products that they choose, rather than just the operational energy/carbon savings. Knowledge driven resource efficiency models could reduce the lifecycle cost of building services for clients and reduce the risks associated with procuring products that include or depend on scarce materials.
