DST Innovations has created a new and revolutionary digital display screen technology (DST™) designed to produce low cost, low powered, light weight and flexible display screens that will provide versatile and green-field products for a diversity of sectors.  DST is a non-organic polymer created by reproducing electroluminescent phosphors with printed electronic circuitry to create RGB colour pixels that form the digital image on flexible substrates in a different way to conventional LCD, LED, Plasma and OLED.  The light emitted is much brighter than conventional screens and as a result DST requires little or no screen backlight in ambient light.  DST is at an early stage but proven in lab conditions. 

The objective of this project is to develop the printing and manufacturing processes necessary for the volume production of printable large area displays on flexible substrates based on the DST technology. It will require the development of both the printable EL but also of the materials and processes used in the intermediate layers, e.g. for the conducting tracks. This will require the expansion of appropriate underpinning science to encompass these complex fluids to enable them to be applied to create accurately dimensioned and functionally textured layers.
