DuPont Teijin Films (DTF) is a global company concerned with the development and manufacture of polyester films. The project involves the development of direct addition technology for film line extruders. So instead of manufacturing a specialised polymer or making a masterbatch, the additive is introduced directly to the base polymer feedstock in the extruder as a powder or solution. This is currently not part of a conventional filming process and so there is a need to establish the limitations of such a process in terms of feeder design, injection point, extruder screw design, specific additives, polymer types and operating scale.
