The key driver for the development of new manufacturing technologies is usually to reduce production costs. The focus is often on finding the most technologically advanced solution, but in practice this may not be the most cost effective route.

Rolls-Royce and the University of Sheffield are looking for a talented postgraduate researcher to investigate how cost engineering methods can be applied in the development of high value manufacturing technology (specifically the aerospace industry).

The overall aim of the project is to develop a framework to assist in selecting the most appropriate and cost-effective technologies.  The successful applicant will work closely with the relevant project teams on a number of Rolls-Royce funded projects currently running in AMRC and with the Rolls-Royce Cost Engineering Team based in Derby.
